When going on a camping trip with a bunch of family members, or as a group of friends, a large tent is needed. Not just any tent though, it’s got to be a good one so that everyone can thoroughly enjoy the experience.
I’ve put together this list of five of the best 8 person tents, and made this review where you can read about all the great features of each tent, as well as any issues I might have come across when using them.

#1 Coleman 8 Person Camping Tent
This 8 person camping tent by Coleman can be purchased in three different colors: blue and black, green and cream, or black and white.
All of Coleman’s tents have to undergo wind and rain tests beforehand. To ensure the tents have strong frames, in the wind test they have to withstand 35+ MPH winds, and for the rain test over 35 gallons of water rain over the tent for more than ten minutes. It starts with a light drizzle and gradually increases to a heavy downpour. If more than two tablespoons of water manage to get into the tent, then it fails.
This is easily one of the best 8 man tents. The welded corners and inverted seams are what make this tent waterproof, and there’s a rainfly included for extra weather protection.
Made with double-thick polyester, this tent is durable and built to last. It’s easy to set up and can be done in just 15 minutes. When setting it up for the first time, I tried to do it by myself, and it took more than 25 minutes. With two people though it would have been much faster. The second time I tried I was much faster.
The large D-style door makes it really easy to get in and out of the tent, especially because it’s hinged, and it has a really durable zipper.
An extended awning offers extra protection and keeps shoes and your gear dry.
The dimensions of this 8 people tent are 16 x 7 ft, three queen sized air beds fit inside without a problem, and with a center height of 6ft 2 inches even the taller people can walk around inside comfortably. It only weighs around 11kg, so it’s not ideal for backpacking.
There are storage pockets sewn on the inside so that you can keep small items organised in one place, and a carry bag is included for convenience.
Since the windows are angled you can keep them open even when it’s raining, so that you have fresh air coming in at all times. You can run an extension cord through the E-port for electrical power inside.
Although it does come with tent stakes they don’t seem to be of great quality, which is why I invested in getting some better ones.
This 8 man tent is very spacious, I went camping with my friends and the lot of us even had some room to spare inside the tent.
I think there should be more windows, especially in my case since where I live it’s hot and humid, and because of the shortage of ventilation there was some condensation inside. Plus, I’m glad I had a small fan with me to help me sleep because of the lack of a draft.
- Spacious
- Durable and weatherproof
- E-Port
- Carry bag included
- Windows are too small
#2 Coleman Dome Tent
This is a Coleman 8 person dome tent that comes in the color green and white and is made out of polyester.
It’s easy to set up this tent and can be done in around 15 minutes because of the snag-free, continuous pole sleeves, and Insta-Clip pole attachments, and it’s even faster to take down.
The interior has dimensions of 15 x 12 ft, so you can fit two queen sized air beds inside, it weighs around 12kg, and it has a center height of 6ft.
There’s also a full-floor screen room (10 x 5 ft) so that you can sit and relax while being protected from any bugs by the mesh. The screen room also provides even more ventilation inside the tent, and if it happens to be too hot you could even use this area to sleep.
You could also use the vestibule to keep your gear and shoes where they’ll stay dry. I really love having some place to keep my shoes because it helps to keep the tent clean.
As already mentioned earlier, all of Coleman’s tents are tested to make sure they can withstand strong wind and heavy rain. The welded corners and inversed seams stop water from getting in, and the frame has no problem against wind thanks to the redesigned poles and guy-out triangles.
This 8 person tent with vestibule comes with a rainfly for extra weather protection, and a carry bag is also provided so that you can easily store and take this tent with you.
It’s great that I can remove the rainfly, because stargazing at night before falling asleep is an absolute must for me.
The windows are protected by the extended awning so that you can keep the window open and let in fresh air at all times, even when it’s raining without the risk of any water getting in.
This eight person tent also has storage pockets conveniently sewn on the inside of the tent’s walls, letting you keep small items off the floor.
Even the zipper cuffs are made out of weather resistant material, for extra protection.
Even though this tent can handle rain, it’s cold temperatures that I’m not too sure of. That’s why I’d recommend only using this tent when it’s warm or hot.
